Chinese New Years Celebration a Cause for Hactivism?

by Dan on July 22, 2010

Jeffrey Carr, whose blog is IntelFusion, is predicting a cyber attack from Chinese hactivists on February 18th because of President Obama’s scheduled visit to the Dalai Lama on the 5th day of Chinese New Year celebrations. The Chinese Foreign Ministry has already urged President Obama to cancel the meeting, which he has refused to do.

Carr points out:

In December 2008, when French President Sarkozy met with the Dalai Lama, Chinese hacktivists responded by launching defacement attacks against various French, UK, Canadian, and US government websites. I think its safe to predict a similar reaction on or about February 18th, 2010.

I think his prediction is probably right on.
